About A/Prof Wayne Ng

A/Prof Wayne Ng is a specialist neurosurgeon on the Gold Coast. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in the specialty of neurosurgery and holds an active position on the Board of the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA). He has trained in Queensland, Melbourne, New Zealand and the UK, allowing him to bring a wealth of international experience to your care. He has a Ph.D in neuro-oncology (University of Melbourne), a Fellowship in Skull Base Surgery (RCS, Edinburgh; Manchester (UK) Centre for Clinical Neurosciences), and a Fellowship in Neurosurgery (complex spine, epilepsy and functional neurosurgery; Austin Hospital, VIC).

He has clinical interests in spinal, neuro-oncological, skull base and peripheral nerve conditions. He is also actively involved in hospital and university-based research and multi-disciplinary care. He provides comprehensive care in the diagnosis and surgical management of conditions affecting the brain, spine, and peripheral nerves. He is committed to safe, evidence-based practice and works within multidisciplinary teams to support optimal patient outcomes.

A/Prof Wayne Ng specialises in a variety of neurosurgical conditions such as:

  • Tumours of the brain and spine
  • Skull base surgery (including acoustic neuromas, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, glossopharyngeal neuralgia and pituitary tumours)
  • Functional neurosurgery (including epilepsy and movements disorders as the lead neurosurgeon for the MRgFUS service at GCUH)
  • Degenerative and complex spine conditions (including traumatic injuries, disc prolapse, spinal stenosis, spinal instability and cervical disc replacement)
  • Vascular neurosurgery (cerebral aneurysms)
  • Peripheral nerve conditions (such as entrapments (carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy and common peroneal nerve palsy) and tumours)

With his commitments to clinical and academic neurosurgery, he is committed to your care now and into the future.

He currently holds a Staff Specialist position at Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) and consults and operates at both GCUH and Gold Coast Private Hospital (GCPH). He is an Associate Professor at Griffith University where he holds active roles in teaching, supervising and shaping local and national neurosurgery policy. He also holds an active position on the NSA Examinations Committee and is a Member of the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation Scientific Committee. He has interests in neurosciences research including brain tumour stem cells, spinal trauma, spinal cord injuries, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), magnetic resonance guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS), skull base pathologies and neuro-oncology.
